Grow old with us!

"couldn't think of a better place to raise our family we are very lucky"

There isn't much you cant do in Theodore.

From our maternity services to schooling right through to our retirement village it seems that Theodore is the sort of place you could live your whole life!

Theodore boasts one of the strongest medical services and health support industries in rural Qld. Dr Bruce Chater is our well known local GP who runs Theodore Medical Centre. The centre offers the services of 3 doctors, 4 practice nurses and 2 aboriginal health assistants. Regular visiting services such as an ophthalmologist, dietician, physiotherapist, optometrist and psychologist also visit at the centre.

Theodore Hospital is a well-equipped rural hospital with facilities for surgery, maternity and palliative care. The midwives and nurses there work closely with Theodore Medical providing an excellent service.

Our Aged Care program is second to none for a rural centre with Theodore Council on the Aging (TCOTA), Home and Community Care (HACC), and the Hostel offering a unit retirement village and a bed hostel. HACC is constantly hosting morning teas, exercise sessions, education workshops and entertainment for its residents and their friends and family. The retirement village is a community owned and run centre, which also makes it unique.

Schooling is very important to the community of Theodore and plays a major part in the infrastructure of our town. Theodore State School is a P-10 school and a bus service is available taking students in year 11 and 12 to neighbouring town Moura. The school has a very committed and talented staff base and supported by a strong P&C association.

For younger children there is the Theodore Early Childhood centre that also hosts weekly Playgroup sessions. The centre provides Day Care and Kindy and is also a community run organisation. There are currently children from ages at the centre under the guidance of the wonderful staff. Located at the end of the boulevard it provides a safe and quiet location for the children and a great support for families in the area.

Everyone in the family can keep active as well in Theodore with strong touch football, junior rugby league, tennis, netball, pony club, golf and bowls clubs operating and local lads can also have a run for the Dawson Valley Drovers rugby union team. All played on well kept facilities at several locations. The Theodore sport and recreation has facilities to host a number of sporting events through the year. There is also a community gym and even regular yoga classes.

But perhaps the best venue in town is the beautiful Dawson River. Playing host to great fishing, canoeing, waterskiing and to the odd hot summer afternoon dip you cant beat a town that is set upon a river. Take it all in on the Castle Ck walking track.

Theodore's main street is a hive of activity with a great retail mix and services on offer. From family owned and run Holmes Enterprises that started in Theodore in 1923 to Rhubarb Boutique that is just 4 years old there is a great variety of shopping and services such as the well patroned Monet Hair Studio.

Theodore's picturesque Boulevard is also full of surprises with interesting twists to the normal main street businesses. Contradictions include fresh fruit and vegetables available at the Post Office and Guns, scopes and ammunition sharing a shopfront with the local newsagent. Theodore doesn't fit the usual small town mould!

One of our innovative businesses is the Dawson Valley Harmony Centre. Clients will travel from all across central Qld and even across the state to visit the Harmony Centre and take advantage of their health therapies on offer. Bowen Therapy, Kinesiology, Reiki, Touch for health, Detox facilities, Chiropractor, you never know what therapy is going to be offered by the centre next and our very own local beautician also operates permanently out of the centre. To add to the contradictions of Boulevard shopping you can access the services of The Computer Guy at the centre as well!

Perhaps the biggest establishment that sets Theodore apart is our one of a kind Theodore Hotel Cooperative. Our local watering hole is owned by locals, run by locals, and all the money goes back to helping locals! Run by a community board and a Manager and their staff all proceeds from the Hotels operation is distributed around the community to local organisations and groups. So you can feel good about yourself while you are having a cold ale all the while contributing back to your local community!

So all of this as well as numerous community groups, sporting clubs and social activities to get involved with - why wouldn't you make the move!
